Impact 16/06/06

With Heat Wave just over a week away, Impact was a place for advantages to be won leading up to the big pay-per-view. And Randy Orton certainly gained an advantage over title challenger Jay Reso as he teamed with his new ally Barabus Lashley to defeat Jay Reso and Phil Jackson when Lashley pinned Jackson.

In other matches, Samoa Joe made an impresive debut, beating Shinya Makabe in a hard-hitting slugfest. Chris Benoit was delighted at ringside...Finlay and William Regal seemed less happy about the situation as they watched on backstage monitors. European Champion Paul "The Phenomenon" Wardle made a successful defence of his title, pinning Mark Jindrak. Lisa Marie Veron teamed with World Womens' Champion Alexis Laree to defeat Krissy Vaine and Carina and MNM's Johnny Nitro pinned Second City Saints' Colt Cabana.

In other news, Dean Roberts had a sit-down one-on-one interview with George Minister. He said that his entire wreslting history came down to one match. If he beat Mercy he'd forever be the one to have retired the "great" Matthew Mercy, if he lost, history would remember him in a less favourable light.

Eric Young and Rick Shaw got into a food-fight in the canteen area, and later in the night Peter Turner blindsided Shawn Michaels as he was being interviewed by Sam Wyness and treated him to a little Sweet Chin Music of his own.
